November 9 Jhonathan F. T. de Souza

Next Friday, November 9th, Jhonathan de Souza, Master candidate advised by Prof. Sérgio Almeida Pacca, will present the seminar “Low Carbon Scenarios for State of Sao Paulo’s Energy Sector”. The seminar takes place in room T1, building M1 at 13h

Abstract:

In the climate change field, studies have forecasted low carbon scenarios at regional level; some of them have focused on the energy sector. In the State of Sao Paulo, energy related emissions represent more than half of total emissions. In the present moment, low carbon studies have proposed scenarios based on not yet mature technologies entirely. This work produced two low carbon scenarios for Sao Paulo’s energy sector from 2016 to 2050. On the one hand, for the first scenario (LCS1), which was made by a conservative approach based on CDM proven technologies, emissions remain at least 19% above 2005 baseline. On the other hand, the second scenario (LCS2), which proposes high renewable penetration and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies, is able to reach the reduction goals of the climate policies. Besides it, emissions become negative from 2044, availing the other sectors with 5% of total mitigation analyzed in the period.
