Art Reingold

Epidemic Preparedness: Mistakes and Successes in the U.S. experience

Dr Reingold’s first presentation will explore and discuss the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, which prior to the pandemic had been judged the best-prepared country in the world to respond to such a threat. Lessons learned and opportunities to improve preparation for future infectious disease threats will be discussed, as will barriers to making improvements.

Dr Reingold’s second presentation will discuss the processes and steps involved in investigating outbreaks, using a “real world” example to illustrate the centrality of the epidemiological component of such investigations, but also illustrating the importance of the laboratory and environmental investigations that often go hand in hand with the epidemiological investigation.
