Leonardo Bastos

Statistical Modeling for Epidemic Preparedness

In the first lecture, Dr. Bastos will present some statistical tools to visualize data from surveillance systems and discuss the importance of adding the uncertainty of the estimates to help the decision-making process.

In the second lecture, Dr. Bastos will show some methods associated with a surveillance system, such as methods to define epidemic thresholds, delay correction (nowcasting), what-if analyses, and forecasting. The concepts studied throughout the course will use open data from infectious diseases like dengue fever, influenza, and  COVID-19 in Brazil.
