Blood centers and epidemics: challenges and opportunities

Michael Busch will discuss in the first lecture the profound impact of the HIV epidemic on the blood supply system. Furthermore, he will shed light on the strategies employed by blood centers to effectively organize themselves in response to emerging epidemics like the West Nile Virus (WNV) and Zika virus.

In the second lecture, Dr. Busch will discuss the research conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic using blood center infrastructure, focusing on its contribution to understanding the epidemic’s evolution in the US. He will emphasize establishing global blood center networks to respond to new threats effectively.
