Situation Room Exercises

Situation Room Simulation Exercises

On Week 2, participants will be assigned to a situation room to work on a simulated exercise. Governments routinely use situation rooms to provide elected officials with current intelligence and crisis support. These situation rooms are used to share and analyze sensitive information to aid decision-making and the emergency response. In this situation room exercise, participants will work in multidisciplinary teams to approach developing a response to a specific problem.

Each day, participants will receive new data and updates on the evolving health emergency and be tasked with coming up with recommendations on how local officials should respond. A team of senior public health experts and public health experts who work in situation rooms will supervise the exercise and guide each day of activities. The health emergency will be constructed from a crisis applied to the Brazilian context, but the findings and exercise will be structured to aid participants working in other countries and contexts.

On the final day, groups will present the major challenges and lessons learned from the five-day exercise.
