Over the past two weeks, LaPCat organized two editions of the Rietveld Refinement course, a mathematical technique widely used for the quantitative analysis of crystalline phases through X-ray Diffraction (XRD).
The course was taught by Rodrigo Brackmann, professor in the Department of Chemistry at UTFPR – Pato Branco Campus and currently a visiting researcher at the laboratory. The classes combined theoretical fundamentals with practical applications of the computational technique focused on phase quantification in crystalline materials and lattice parameter calculations.
In the field of catalysis, X-ray diffraction is one of the main characterization techniques employed for the structural identification of catalysts. Rietveld Refinement enables the quantification of crystalline phases present in materials and is especially useful for the analysis of multiphase systems, such as mixed oxides.
We thank Prof. Rodrigo for his contribution to the course and all participants for their engagement in the activities.
