The total market for Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) plasticizers has grown at a moderate rate (~3.4% <\/span>compounded annual growth rate, <\/span>or<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> CAGR<\/span>) in the past years, currently valued at approximately USD 15 Billion\/<\/span>yr<\/span> globally (2019), with a total sales volume of approximately 6,400 ton\/yr. The bio-based plasticizers market <\/span>is valued at USD 2.7 Billion\/<\/span>yr<\/span>, with a growth rate of 10.7% CAGR<\/span>, as sustainability becom<\/span>es increasingly relevant for con<\/span>sumers, pushing converters to reformulate with more sustainable options. The current sales volume of ESBO and its derivatives is estimated at 600 kt\/yr. Preliminary tests <\/span>indicate<\/span> that <\/span>high oleic soybean oil<\/span> (HOSO) <\/span>has a significantly different behavior after epoxidized when compared to regular <\/span>soybean oil<\/span>. The <\/span>epoxidized high oleic soybean oil (EHOSBO) <\/span>is colorless<\/span>, where<\/span>as<\/span> the epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO) is yellow<\/span>, with a slightly lower oxirane value. This feature alone may be sufficient to justify further investigation<\/span>s<\/span>, as one important obstacle to <\/span>increased adoption of<\/span> ESBO<\/span> and its derivatives<\/span> in the <\/span>flexible <\/span>PVC industry is color. ESHOSBO should also contain <\/span>less<\/span> incompatible molecules due to its lower concentration of fully saturated fatty acids. O<\/span>n top of that, the low<\/span>–<\/span>temperature behavior seems to be different and needs to be investigated in further detail. The use of the <\/span>EHOSBO<\/span> as a raw material for second and third<\/span>–<\/span>generation plasticizers also needs to be evaluated. Initial tests indicate that the final material <\/span>and the residual glycerin<\/span> are<\/span> also colorless<\/span>, potentially adding<\/span> value to the <\/span>final products.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The investigation will focus on validating ESHOSBO and its derivatives in PVC applications, building on the <\/span>company\u2019s extensive experience<\/span> in the segment<\/span> and University of S. Paulo (USP) <\/span>well equipped facilities<\/span>.<\/span> The investigation will <\/span>include<\/span> preparation<\/span> of<\/span> samples<\/span> and <\/span>chemical characterization<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0 The application performance will be done in a separate facility.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
