The knowledge built in this discipline should favor the performance in the area of Biotechnology, opening perspectives for the student to identify potential applications of the topics dealt with in situations of professional practice and with the development of products and services of biotechnological interest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>THEORETICAL PART<\/p>\n<p><u>Brazilian Biodiversity<\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>Pharmaceutics and Tissue bioengineering<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nanomaterials<\/li>\n<li>Stem cells and cell therapy<\/li>\n<li>Biomaterials and 3D cultures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Neuroscience<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Neurotransmission, synapses and neuroplasticity<\/li>\n<li>Central nervous system modeling for the study of brain aging and neurodegenerative diseases<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Fluid Biophysics<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Basics of fluid dynamics<\/li>\n<li>Applications to the cardiovascular system<\/li>\n<li>Air dynamics and respiration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Data Science<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Data mining<\/li>\n<li>Bioinformatics<\/li>\n<li>Modeling of complex systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Bioprocess engineering<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Principles of the upstream and downstream stages for manufacturing biomolecules holding commercial interest<\/li>\n<li>Experimentation throughout the development stages of a bioprocess<\/li>\n<li>Economic assessment of technological alternatives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>PRACTICAL PART (FIELD TRIP)<\/p>\n<p>Analysis of problems in complex situations of the Brazilian reality in excursions to critical regions that allow highlighting crucial demands of the contemporary world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Evaluation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students will be evaluated on the basis of a 20 min oral presentation (previously prepared either individually or in a group) on a topic chosen by the student themselves. The following criteria will be considered in the assessment: clarity of presentation, organization of content, amplitude and precision of notions<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Attendance and Participation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Attendance is mandatory in 70% of the activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Grading and approval criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Grade equal to or greater than 5.0: student approved;<\/p>\n<p>Grade between 3.0 and 4.9: requires a 2<sup>nd<\/sup> evaluation step (test to be taken in January);<\/p>\n<p>Grade below 3.0: failure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>References<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Tissue bioengineering<\/u><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Nourian Dehkordi, A. et al.
