The Laboratory of Cell Biology and Functional Anatomy (LBCAF), located in the Anatomy Department at ICB-USP, focuses on the study of the repercussions of endocrine action on the cardiovascular system, both in morphological and functional aspects.
We use different animal models (rats and mice) and cellular models (primary cultures of cardiomyocytes and other cells of the cardiovascular system, as well as immortalized cell lines) for the follow-up of biological phenomena, monitoring cell structure and function.

As experimental approaches we use the analysis of cardiac function under normal conditions and after induction of ischemia-reperfusion (isolated heart); morphological and morphometric analysis of the heart, analysis of the localization and gene expression and specific proteins in cardiac tissue; molecular analyses involving the study of cell signaling; biochemical analyses; flow cytometry of cardiac tissue, and others as well.
The LBCAF, besides contributing to the generation of state-of-the-art knowledge, through the publication of its results in quality journals in the field, has also been contributing to the training of highly qualified human resources, in the modalities of Scientific Initiation, Master’s, Doctorate and Post-Doctorate.
The LBCAF Research Projects and the students’ scholarships have been receiving regular support, with funding from Funding Agencies (Fapesp, CAPES and CNPq).
