Why, why, why?

We are a team of passionate enthusiastic scientists in studying regulation of inflammatory processes and the induction of tissue tolerance. In brief, we love inflammation! In this sense, we have been studying immune responses for the past 17 years in our laboratory, namely, Transplantation Immunobiology Laboratory (LIT) at the Institute of Biomedical Science, University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Over the years, we have set up several in vivo and in vitro models to study the role of immune cells (T and B cells, dendritic cells, neutrophils, macrophages, NKT cells, among others), molecules (leptin, adiponectin, HO-1, CO, among others), signaling pathways (mTOR, STAT3, HIF-1α, AMPK, NRLPs, TLRs, among others) and cellular metabolism in health-disease processes. We were able to identify new players and ways to negatively modulate inflammatory responses to prevent tissue damage and organ failure. Due to these accomplishments, our lab was responsible for the formation of several young researchers that now hold titles of professor and group leader at several universities in Brazil and worldwide.
