Adele Nelson<\/figcaption><\/figure>

Adele Nelson is an Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Texas at Austin, where she is also Co-Director of the Center for Latin American Visual Studies (CLAVIS) and a faculty affiliate at the Lozano Long Institute for Latin American Studies. She specializes in the history of modern and contemporary art of Latin America, with a focus on Brazil. Her research interests include the intersections of art and social identity; the history of art institutions, exhibitions, and pedagogy; the close study of objects; transnational exchange; and theories of artistic activism and modernism. She is the author of Forming Abstraction: Art and Institutions in Postwar Brazil<\/em> (2022), which was awarded the 2023 Antonio Candido Prize for the best humanities book on Brazil from the Latin American Studies Association and named a 2023 CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title. She also authored Jac Leirner in Conversation<\/em> (2011) and co-edited the exhibition catalogue Social Fabric: Art and Activism in Contemporary Brazil \/ Tecido social: Arte e ativismo no Brasil contempor\u00e2neo<\/em> (University of Texas Press, 2023 \/ Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Editora da Unesp, 2024). Dr. Nelson is currently working on a book about women printmakers in Brazil and their transnational and activist networks.\u00a0Her research has received support from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the American Philosophical Society, the Clark Art Institute, the Fulbright US Scholar Program, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. She holds a BA from Brown University and MA and PhD from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
