Na Constitui\u00e7\u00e3o Brasileira de 1988, a cidadania extrapola o mero exerc\u00edcio dos direitos pol\u00edticos. Combina formas individuais e coletivas de exerc\u00edcio de direitos civis, pol\u00edticos, econ\u00f4micos, sociais e culturais na esfera da vida privada e da vida em sociedade. \u00a0O que significa dizer que na sistem\u00e1tica da Constitui\u00e7\u00e3o de 1988 o pleno desenvolvimento da personalidade humana de nenhum modo pode ser desligado da participa\u00e7\u00e3o na vida da coletividade e no espa\u00e7o p\u00fablico. Esse nexo exige a transmiss\u00e3o formal, a cada gera\u00e7\u00e3o, de todo um conjunto de valores e princ\u00edpios de extra\u00e7\u00e3o democr\u00e1tica, por meio do ensino escolar, como determina o art. 205 da Constitui\u00e7\u00e3o.
