Offshore Technology and Topology Optimization (OTTO) laboratory

We are the OTTO lab, a research group in the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (PNV) at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (Poli-USP), in Brazil. We are interested in parametric, shape and topology optimization of multiphysics problems, with experience in acoustic- and fluid-structure interaction, mechanical stress and fluid dynamics. Applications include the design of ships and offshore structures, energy systems (such as fuel cells) and pneumatic machinery for mitigation of CO2 and methane emission. We developed the TOBS method, a topology optimization method based on sequential integer linear programming.

The OTTO lab is led by Prof. Renato Picelli, an Assistant Professor in Engineering Optimization. Prof. Picelli is also the Director of Innovation and Technology Transfer of the Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Innovation (RCGI) and a member of the Early Career Special Committee of the International Society for Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ISSMO). Prof. Picelli has published over 40 peer-reviewed journal papers with over 30 co-authors around the globe.
