Postgraduate course at EPUSP

Types

The Graduate Program in Chemical Engineering of the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo – USP-EP-PEQ – provides programs of Master’s Degree and Doctor’s Degree.

The application for the selection processes for MASTER’S DEGREE in Chemical Engineering can be made by graduate students of hard sciences and technology. The application for the DOCTOR’S DEGREE program can be made by those with Master’s degree in a correlated field.

The EPUSP graduate students can be divided into two categories:

Regular Students: those enrolled in the Master’s and Doctor’s Degrees programs and with an accredited advisor in the program.

Special Students: the professionals that want to take single postgraduate disciplines. When admitted as regular students, those that have taken disciplines as special students can make use of the credits they earned in the three years prior to their admission as regular students.

 

Getting to know USP Graduate Program

The Graduate Vice-Dean’s Office makes available the Course of Introduction to Graduation which has as its objective to transmit to the admitted students the knowledge needed on how the USP graduate program works.

 

Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering

In order to obtain the Master’s Degree, the student shall fulfill the following activities in a period no longer than 36 months (3 years):

  • 40 credits in graduate disciplines: 32 credits in elective disciplines and 8 credits in a mandatory discipline of Master’s Degree course. The disciplines taken by students while as special students can be accepted for the purpose of sum of credits, if taken no later than three years before their registration as regular students.
  • Passing the Master’s Degree Qualification Examination, which consists of an oral presentation before an examination board, in a critical and substantiated way, of the research that refers to the dissertation of the master’s degree course.
  • Depositing the dissertation in the Graduate Service with the proof of acceptance of at least one work in a scientific congress of national or international repercussion recognized by the community, coauthored by the adviser, within the theme developed in the dissertation and submitted during the respective course;
  • successfully defending the Master’s Degree Thesis (Dissertation), expounding orally the work and being asked questions before three professors, one of which at least not belonging to the USP.

 

Doctor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering

In order to obtain the Doctor’s Degree, the regular student shall fulfill the following activities in a period no longer than 54 months (4.5 years):

  • 32 credits in graduate disciplines (the disciplines taken by students while as special student can be accepted for the purpose of sum of credits, if taken no later than three years before the registration as regular student);
  • passing the Doctor’s Degree Qualification Examination, which consists of an oral presentation before an examination board, in a critical and substantiated way, of the research that refers to the dissertation of the doctor’s degree course.
  • depositing the thesis in the Graduate Service together with the proof of submission of at least one work in a scientific journal listed with the editorial board; These works must be coauthored by hour adviser, within the theme developed in the thesis and submitted during the respective course.
  • successfully defending the Doctor’s Degree Dissertation, expounding orally the work and being asked questions before five professors, two of which at least not belonging to the USP.

 

Direct entry to Doctor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering

For the applicant for the Doctor’s degree who does not have a Master’s Degree or a recognized equivalent (Direct Doctorate), the conditions for obtaining the Doctor’s degree above apply, but the number of credits in graduate disciplines is seventy-two (72) and the period allowed for completion is 66 months (5.5 years).
