Sua trajet\u00f3ria espiritual come\u00e7ou na inf\u00e2ncia com a influ\u00eancia de figuras importantes do candombl\u00e9 e, em 1969, M\u00e3e Beata mudou-se para o Rio de Janeiro, onde aprofundou seus la\u00e7os com a tradi\u00e7\u00e3o afro-brasileira. Em 1980, fundou o terreiro Il\u00ea Omi Ojuar\u00f4, na Baixada Fluminense, onde se destacou por suas a\u00e7\u00f5es sociais e seu papel na promo\u00e7\u00e3o dos direitos dos negros e na valoriza\u00e7\u00e3o das tradi\u00e7\u00f5es afro-brasileiras.
