Formul\u00f3 las bases te\u00f3ricas de lo \u201creal maravilloso\u201d, que como autor adopt\u00f3 en gran parte de sus textos. En \u00e9stos afirma tem\u00e1ticas nacionalistas, revolucionarias y mestizas, como en\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El reino de este mundo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0(1948), donde relata la historia de la independencia de\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/espanol-haiti\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hait\u00ed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0desde el punto de vista de un ex esclavo.\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los pasos perdidos<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0(1953) registra el enfrentamiento entre el europeo y el latinoamericano, y la dif\u00edcil situaci\u00f3n de encontrarse entre el atraso y la modernidad, aspectos retomados en la novela\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El siglo de las luces<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0(1963), en la que procura reflejar comprensivamente la influencia del imaginario franc\u00e9s en el Caribe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Particip\u00f3 del movimiento surrealista, del cual fue tambi\u00e9n cr\u00edtico. Ejerci\u00f3 la actividad period\u00edstica mientras vivi\u00f3 en el exilio y, junto con\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nicol\u00e1s Guill\u00e9n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, particip\u00f3 del Grupo Minorista. Despu\u00e9s de la Revoluci\u00f3n volvi\u00f3 a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/cuba\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuba<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, donde ocup\u00f3 importantes cargos en el r\u00e9gimen socialista. Intelectual de gran envergadura, logr\u00f3 construir su novel\u00edstica hist\u00f3rica, orientada en cuestiones de la formaci\u00f3n de la\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/espanol-literatura\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">literatura<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0criolla, a trav\u00e9s del Barroco, estilo que, seg\u00fan Carpentier, era el \u00fanico que hac\u00eda justicia a la monumental naturaleza americana.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Form\u00f3 generaciones de escritores \u2013entre otros, la coterr\u00e1nea Nancy Morej\u00f3n\u2013, que contin\u00faan en otros proyectos lo que se puede leer en su\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guerra del tiempo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0(1958), donde se centra en la elaboraci\u00f3n de una novela que procura interpretar un per\u00edodo. Le\u00eddo por algunos cr\u00edticos como escritor de novelas filos\u00f3ficas,\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La consagraci\u00f3n de la primavera<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0(1978) ubica esta confluencia entre dos categor\u00edas temporales, la del hombre y la de la historia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interesado en elaborar ambientes universales y arquetipos de \u00e9poca, su preocupaci\u00f3n por la historia desemboc\u00f3 en narrativas minuciosas como\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Concierto barroco<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0(1974), donde reconstruye el viaje de un criollo por Europa.\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El recurso del m\u00e9todo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0(1976) dialoga con la tradicional novela del dictador de Am\u00e9rica Latina, escrita por novelistas de los cuales reconoc\u00eda haber recibido influencias, como, entre otros,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/gararcia-marquez-gabriel\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gabriel Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/espanol-roa-bastos-augusto\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Augusto Roa Bastos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0y\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/espanol-vargas-llosa-mario\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mario Vargas Llosa<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Tambi\u00e9n public\u00f3\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Literatura y conciencia pol\u00edtica en Am\u00e9rica Latina<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight:
