Entre 1911 y 1914 frecuent\u00f3 la Academia de San Carlos y la Escuela al Aire Libre de Santa Anita. Colabor\u00f3 en el diario revolucionario\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La Vanguardia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, el<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mismo en que trabajaron el pintor Jos\u00e9 Clemente Orozco (1883-1949), cuya obra mural, marcadamente pol\u00edtica y po\u00e9tica, tuvo una enorme recepci\u00f3n, y el dr. Atl (Gerardo Murillo, conocido pintor naturalista).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abandon\u00f3 los estudios para integrarse al Ej\u00e9rcito Constitucionalista de la Revoluci\u00f3n Mexicana, donde alcanz\u00f3 el grado de capit\u00e1n segundo. Con el fin de la Revoluci\u00f3n, en 1918, particip\u00f3 del Centro Bohemio, en Guadalajara, donde se discut\u00eda y debat\u00eda sobre el papel del artista en el proceso revolucionario. En 1919 fue enviado a Europa como agregado militar (cargo que perdi\u00f3 al a\u00f1o siguiente). En Par\u00eds conoci\u00f3 a\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diego Rivera<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, con quien elabor\u00f3 la idea de una pintura \u201cmonumental y heroica\u201d, dentro del esp\u00edritu de la Revoluci\u00f3n y de las tradiciones precoloniales de Am\u00e9rica. En Europa conoci\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n el Movimiento Modernista Franc\u00e9s. En Barcelona, en 1921, public\u00f3 la revista\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vida Americana\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">y el\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Manifiesto a los Artistas de Am\u00e9rica<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. En 1922 retorn\u00f3 a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/espanol-mexico\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">M\u00e9xico\u00a0<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">para iniciar su primer mural,\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los elementos<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, en la Escuela Nacional Preparatoria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En 1923, Siqueiros ingres\u00f3 al\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Partido Comunista<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Fund\u00f3 el Sindicato de los Trabajadores, T\u00e9cnicos, Pintores y Escultores, del que se convirti\u00f3 en secretario general, y en 1924 edit\u00f3 el semanario\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El Machete<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, que trataba temas de la problem\u00e1tica art\u00edstica y social. Involucrado en la actividad pol\u00edtica (entre otras cosas, ayud\u00f3 a fundar un Sindicato de los Mineros), coordin\u00f3 la delegaci\u00f3n mexicana en un encuentro de la Internacional, en la Uni\u00f3n Sovi\u00e9tica (1928). En 1930 estuvo en prisi\u00f3n por seis meses, en Taxco, a causa de sus actividades subversivas. Reci\u00e9n en 1932 realiz\u00f3 su primera exposici\u00f3n individual, en el Casino Espinal, en la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico. En California pint\u00f3\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mitin obrero\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1932) en la Chouvinard School of Art,\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Am\u00e9rica tropical\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">en el Plaza Art Center, y\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Retrato actual de M\u00e9xico\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">en la residencia de Dudley Murphy, interes\u00e1ndose tambi\u00e9n por el uso de materiales industriales en las composiciones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En 1933 fue deportado a los Estados Unidos. Pas\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n por\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/espanol-uruguay\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uruguay\u00a0<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">y por la\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/espanol-argentina\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Argentina<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, donde realiz\u00f3 un mural utilizando las nuevas t\u00e9cnicas. En 1936 fund\u00f3, en Nueva York, el Siqueiros Experimental Workshop-Laboratory of Modern Techniques in Art, donde llev\u00f3 a cabo experiencias con materiales industriales y fotograf\u00eda. Al a\u00f1o siguiente luch\u00f3 con el Ej\u00e9rcito Republicano durante la Guerra Civil espa\u00f1ola, y recibi\u00f3 el t\u00edtulo de teniente coronel. De regreso en M\u00e9xico, en 1940, particip\u00f3 de una serie de actividades pol\u00edticas radicales, entre las que se cuenta haber colaborado en el asesinato de Trotsky. En 1941 estuvo en\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/chile\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chile<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, donde realiz\u00f3 un mural en la biblioteca de la Escuela M\u00e9xico, en Chill\u00e1n.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En 1943 pint\u00f3\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El nuevo d\u00eda de las democracias\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">en el Hotel Sevilla-Baltimore, en La Habana,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/cuba\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuba\u00a0<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(actualmente el Museo Nacional de Cuba), adem\u00e1s de otros murales en la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico. En 1951 realiz\u00f3 murales para la Universidad Nacional Aut\u00f3noma de M\u00e9xico y para el Instituto Polit\u00e9cnico Nacional. Fue llevado nuevamente a prisi\u00f3n en 1961, hecho que interrumpi\u00f3 el trabajo en dos grandes murales, para el Teatro de la Asociaci\u00f3n de Actores de M\u00e9xico y para el Museo de Antropolog\u00eda. En 1964 dio inicio al mayor de sus murales,\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La marcha de la humanidad<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, en el Polyforum Cultural Siqueiros (que \u00e9l mismo fund\u00f3), en la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico. En 1966 el gobierno mexicano le otorg\u00f3 el Premio Nacional de Arte, y en 1967 el gobierno sovi\u00e9tico le entreg\u00f3 el Premio Lenin de la Paz. Ese mismo a\u00f1o fue presentada en la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico una gran retrospectiva de su obra.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adem\u00e1s de su actividad en las\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/espanol-artes-plasticas\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">artes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, se destac\u00f3 por sus escritos y conferencias. Siqueiros public\u00f3 una serie de textos que causaron pol\u00e9mica, como\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No hay m\u00e1s ruta que la nuestra\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1945),\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Me llamaban el Coronelazo\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(una autobiograf\u00eda publicada en 1977),\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">C\u00f3mo se pinta un mural\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(libro publicado en La Habana, en 1985) y\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arte en revoluci\u00f3n\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(una antolog\u00eda). Experiment\u00f3 con t\u00e9cnicas, materiales, proyecciones y nuevos soportes, muchos de los cuales se perdieron o resultaron da\u00f1ados, precisamente debido a su car\u00e1cter experimental.
