Por esse motivo, no movimento da salsa, sobressaiu principalmente com a Orquestra de\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/espanol-puente-tito\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tito Puente<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, com quem produziu sete discos. Outro tradicionalista\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">salsero\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(embora fosse um importante inovador do jazz latino), Puente tamb\u00e9m rejeitou publicamente o termo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De in\u00edcio, Celia tinha projetos de ser professora de\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/espanol-literatura\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">literatura<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, mas depois de triunfar em um show de talentos na televis\u00e3o, reorientou seus estudos para a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/es\/es-espanol-musica\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">m\u00fasica<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Matriculou-se no Conservat\u00f3rio de Havana em teoria, solfejo e piano. Com seu costumeiro atrevimento desafiador, anos mais tarde disse que n\u00e3o tinha tido \u00eaxito no piano porque gostava de exibir suas longas unhas. Antes de seus sucessos com La Sonora, destacou-se por seus cantos afrorreligiosos; e assim, com Las Mulatas de Fuego, obteve seus primeiros sucessos internacionais no\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/mexico\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">M\u00e9xico<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0e na\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/venezuela\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Venezuela<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. O trompetista principal da La Sonora, Pedro Knight, foi seu diretor musical e\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">manager\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">art\u00edstico, al\u00e9m de seu marido durante toda a vida, apesar dos boatos de seus romances clandestinos com o \u201cSonero Maior\u201d, o porto-riquenho Ismael Rivera.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Com uma poderosa voz de contralto, seu amplo registro oper\u00e1tico maravilhava, o que, combinado com seu extraordin\u00e1rio sentido r\u00edtmico, tornou-a a mais destacada int\u00e9rprete feminina da m\u00fasica \u201ctropical\u201d na segunda metade do s\u00e9culo XX. Tamb\u00e9m demonstrou ser uma excelente\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sonera<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Al\u00e9m de seus sucessos com Puente, participou de muitos discos de ouro da salsa, entre os quais se destacam\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Celia y Johnny y Tremendo Cach\u00e9<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, com o flautista dominicano Johnny Pacheco, e\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only they could have made this album<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, com o trombonista nova-iorquino-latino\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/espanol-colon-willie\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Willie Col\u00f3n<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Pouco antes de Celia falecer, Emilio Estefan produziu seu \u00faltimo \u00e1lbum,\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La negra tiene tumbao<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, que combinava a salsa com o\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miami sound<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, e com o qual ela recebeu seu \u00faltimo Grammy.
