Este j\u00e1 havia sido fundador do Teatro Experimental no liceu Ferm\u00edn Toro, onde teve como alunos Rom\u00e1n Chalbaud e Nicol\u00e1s Curiel, com os quais encenou Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca, Eugene O\u2019Neill, Ram\u00f3n Valle-Incl\u00e1n, Miguel de Cervantes e uma not\u00e1vel\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Electra<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, de S\u00f3focles, em 1955.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El Nuevo Grupo foi organizado com o principal objetivo de difundir o autor venezuelano, cuja obra come\u00e7ava a consolidar-se. Foi influenciado pelas correntes experimentais e pelas teorias de Bertolt Brecht e Antonin Artaud. Com um repert\u00f3rio sustentado pela diversidade da obra de Isaac Chocr\u00f3n, Rom\u00e1n Chalbaud e Jos\u00e9 Ignacio Cabrujas \u2013 trio batizado por Lorenzo Batall\u00e9n como \u201ca sant\u00edssima trindade\u201d e fundadores do coletivo \u2013 surgiu \u00e0 margem de uma determinada est\u00e9tica teatral, como escreveu o pesquisador Leonardo Azparren Gimenez, marcado pela riqueza, pela complexidade e pelo ecletismo, assim como pelo interesse em ressaltar a rela\u00e7\u00e3o autor-ator.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sob a presid\u00eancia de Rom\u00e1n Chalbaud, levou ao conhecimento do p\u00fablico textos de dramaturgos j\u00e1 consagrados e, sobretudo, novos. El Nuevo Grupo marcou as trajet\u00f3rias como diretores de Ugo Ulive, Armando Gotta, Enrique Porte, Cabrujas e Chalbaud.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O grupo trabalhou no\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">teatro<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0infantil, a partir de personagens que Isaac Chocr\u00f3n criou em 1967, entre os quais se destacou\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pepe Popoff<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, interpretado pelo ator Antonio Brice\u00f1o, que se apresentava em companhia de Gloria Mir\u00f3s. Em 1968, estrearam\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La cucarachita Mart\u00ednez<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, pe\u00e7a baseada num conto de Antonio Arr\u00e1iz, adaptado por Manuel Trujillo;\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O m\u00e1gico de Oz<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, baseada no conto de Elizabeth Fuller Chapman, dirigida por Brice\u00f1o; e a com\u00e9dia musical\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La peque\u00f1a Lul\u00fa<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, baseada no personagem de hist\u00f3rias em quadrinhos, dirigida por Gilberto Ag\u00fcero e protagonizada por Mariela Romero, uma montagem inovadora, com\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.usp.br\/portalatinoamericano\/es\/es-espanol-musica\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">m\u00fasica<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0ao vivo interpretada pelo conjunto Bossa Nova 4, dirigido por Roberto Todd e J\u00e9sus Sanoja. Institui\u00e7\u00e3o de promo\u00e7\u00e3o teatral, tamb\u00e9m editou a\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revista de Teatro<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, com seis n\u00fameros entre 1967 e 1970, e publicou v\u00e1rios livros. Parte de sua equipe diretora passou a partir de 1986 \u00e0 Com\u00e9dia Nacional e, em 1988, devido a dificuldades econ\u00f4micas, o grupo fechou suas portas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cabrujas fundou o Teatro Profissional da Venezuela com Iraida Tapia, Mois\u00e9s Guevara e Fausto Verdial no Teatro Para\u00edso, onde dirigiu\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El pez que fuma<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La casa de Bernarda Alba<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, de Lorca, e\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sonny<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, sua \u00faltima montagem.
