Information for Foreign Students
Foreigners can attend courses at USP on condition of exchange student from graduation for a semester, renewable for one more (provided that with the approval of foreign institution), obtaining credits or carrying out research to the curricula of their universities of origin. All activities of the USP are in Portuguese.
Documents required:
The USP is a public institution and free, receiving foreign students without the collection of school fees. Therefore, it does not offer scholarships. Accommodation The University has no accommodation for foreign students. Portuguese Language Course for Foreigners THE LANGUAGES OF FFLCH offers six Portuguese course for foreigners. Documentation for students to obtain your document of temporary stay of foreigners, indispensable for their prolonged stay in Brazil, has two stages and begins in your country of origin.
In your country of origin at the Brazilian Embassy (or Consulate) in your country of origin, you should:
Ask the Student Visa of the type 4.
To do this, you must take in hand the Acceptance Letter sent by IP or by the University of São Paulo. You will probably also need to present your passport, photos and other documents. ‘You will receive the request for Consular Visa (Visa Application Form) to be delivered to the Federal Police of Brazil.
Important: As in most countries, you cannot apply for a visa for temporary stay of foreigners if you are in the country of destination with a visa other than a Student Visa (tourist visas, business, and others, are not accepted). You must have come to Brazil, the student visa (type 4), to apply for a visa for temporary stay of foreigners. Attention: When arriving to Brazil your passport must have at least 1 year of validity.
In Brazil the document of temporary stay of foreigners in Brazil is called: National Register of Foreigners (RNE). Only with this number you can open an account in a bank, buy spend at school, or performing any other activity that requires a confirmation of their prolonged stay in Brazil.
To get your wallet with the RNE, after obtaining a Student Visa of the type 4 in their country of origin and have been presented in person in CCNint to obtain your certificate of registration, you must follow the following script:

1.3. In the field “part of the recipe STN” select “140082 – Alien Registration”.
1.4. Then click “Generate” tab and print.
2. Then you must fill again the same groups of 1 with the following modifications:
2.1. In the field “part of the recipe” select “140120 – Portfolio of investment from the 1st track”.
2.2. Then click “Generate” tab and print another tab.
3. Pay the two tabs at any bank (stay tuned to the payment deadline). You can use the banks of the University City, if you want to.
3.1. 140082 – Alien Registration
3.2. 140120 – Certificate of Alien 1º copie
4. With the two tabs of the Federal Police paid, you must go to the following address:

4. At this site, you must submit the following documents:
