The Master’s degree offered by the Graduate Program in Transportation Engineering at the Escola Politécnica is a stricto sensu research-oriented academic program and is tuition-free.
Master’s students must complete a minimum of 96 (ninety-six) credit units, of which 48 (forty-eight) are in coursework and 48 (forty-eight) are in the dissertation.
The minimum number of credits completed within PPGET must correspond to one quarter of the minimum number of coursework credits required. With the approval of the research advisor and within the official PPGET time frame, courses taken outside USP in recognized graduate programs may be accepted for credit transfer, up to a maximum of one third of the minimum required coursework credits, subject to approval by the CCP.
The deadline for submission of the dissertation is 32 months. Within the first 16 months from the date of initial enrollment, students must request registration for the qualification exam.

The Selection Process for the Master’s program consists of three (3) stages:
- First stage (ELIMINATORY): Written subject exam; English language proficiency; Review of Lattes CV and undergraduate academic record.
- Second stage (ELIMINATORY): Oral defense/interview.
- Third stage (ELIMINATORY): Presentation of a research project proposal.
Required Documents:
- Photo identification document and CPF (RNE or Passport for foreign applicants);
• Undergraduate academic transcript, including any course failures and/or enrollment withdrawals;
• Undergraduate diploma (front and back), or a certificate indicating the date of degree conferral from a fully recognized undergraduate program, or a declaration stating that the degree will be awarded before the enrollment date, in accordance with item 3.2 of the Public Notice;
• Updated Lattes Curriculum Vitae of the applicant (http://lattes.cnpq.br);
• One (1) recent 3×4 photograph.

The period to request a fee waiver will be from September 1, 2025 to September 8, 2025.
The list of applicants granted the application fee waiver will be published on the Selection Process webpage by September 12, 2025.

Applicants may self-declare at the time of application as Black, Brown (mixed race), Indigenous, transgender, persons with disabilities, and/or individuals belonging to families with a per capita household income of less than two minimum wages. These candidates will receive an additional one (1) point in each component of the final score (English proficiency exam, written subject exam, and analysis of the Lattes Curriculum Vitae and academic transcript).
The applicant must complete the appropriate self-declaration form according to their category, fill it out, save it as a PDF, and sign it using a GOV.br digital signature. The document must be uploaded in the designated field during the application process.

The English Proficiency Exam is administered by the Interdepartmental Language Center of the School of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences (FFLCH) of USP.
The exam is held in person, and the results are valid for two (2) years.

As an alternative to the exam administered by the FFLCH Interdepartmental Language Center, the following certificates obtained through English proficiency exams conducted by external institutions may be exceptionally accepted, provided they are within their validity period (the applicant is responsible for verifying validity) or issued up to three (3) years prior to the start date of the Selection Process, whichever occurs first:
- TOEFL – Institutional Testing Program (ITP): minimum score of 400
• TOEFL – Internet Based Test (IBT): minimum score of 60
• IELTS: minimum score of 4.5
• Cambridge: Pass in First Certificate in English (B2), Certificate in Advanced English (C1), or Certificate of Proficiency in English (C2)
• Michigan: Certificate of Competency in English (FCE); Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE and CPE Computer Based), both with a minimum score of 50%
• Duolingo English Test: minimum score of 80
• EF SET 50 (https://www.efset.org/pt/): minimum score of 45 in Reading (Listening scores will not be considered). The applicant must record themselves while taking the exam and send the video file to ppget.poli@usp.br along with the certificate.
Other accepted alternatives, duly documented:
• Native speakers from English-speaking countries
• Applicants who studied at a higher education institution for more than 12 months in a country where English is an official language
• Applicants who completed a professional internship for more than 12 months in a country where English is an official language
