Second Joint UT and USP PhD degree: continuation of a unique international collaboration

The University of Twente and two engineering schools of the University of São Paulo: Escola Politécnica da USP (EPUSP) and Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos da USP (EESC) offer high-quality research groups and share a similar academic culture and have decided to continue their unique and successful academic collaboration. The Rectors and responsible Deans of both universities signed a new joint PhD programme agreement. The joint PhD programme aims to promote academic collaboration by co-supervising PhD students. The PhD research results in a single PhD diploma, carried out under the joint responsibility of the University of Twente and the University São Paulo.
The first joint PhD programme between the two universities started in 2019 and includes five PhD projects in the domain of transport engineering and water management. The PhD projects contribute to solutions for sustainable urban transport and interconnected water-energy-food ecosystems. The second joint degree agreement aims to strengthen and broaden the collaboration between the two universities in the next five years.

Double Degree Program
A Double Degree is an academic partnership established through an international agreement between USP and a foreign higher education and research institution, based on mutual reciprocity. It involves joint supervision of the student, enabling the awarding of a degree that is valid and officially recognized by both institutions.
Objective
The Double Degree Program aims to promote and strengthen scientific cooperation between research teams at USP and partner foreign institutions.
To participate, you must be enrolled in one of the graduate programs of the Polytechnic School (Poli) or the São Carlos School of Engineering (EESC) at USP.
Please review the agreement:
- Commitment Agreement (in Portuguese and in the foreign language), in the case of a General Agreement;
- Work Plan describing the activities to be carried out (in Portuguese and in the foreign language);
- Schedule for the Execution of Activities (in Portuguese and in the foreign language);
- Undergraduate diploma with official registration and proof of current enrollment, in the case of an international student. For USP students, the academic record (student file) is sufficient;
- Curriculum vitae of the foreign supervisor;
- Approval by the relevant governing bodies (CCP, CPG, and the School Congregation or equivalent authority).
