NAPTISA – Research Support Center for Technology and Innovation for a Sustainable Agriculture
This Research Support Center evaluates the impacts of agricultural activities on the environment, and investigates the feasibility of mitigating them. The acquired knowledge is disseminated aiming at supporting management policies and scientific cooperation between researchers presently engaged in the inception, improvement and application of advanced strategies to agronomical and environmental research. The main activities are carried out aiming at a sustainable agriculture, as well as enhanced food safety.

CISBi – Center for Integrative Systems Biology

EBC – Research Center on Low Carbon Economy
The goal of LCE is to develop studies related to Low Carbon Economy that allow the evaluation of socio-economic impacts of environmental constraints and the risks and opportunities in the transition to a development model based on lower emissions greenhouse gases. The studies are multidisciplinary and are structured in five blocks: economic aspects; accounting and regulatory matters – carbon market in Brazil; aspects of management – environment and organizations; innovation and technological development; alternative energy and energy efficiency.

FTO – Core Research in Pathophysiology and Ocular Therapeutics
FTO integrates the diverse expertise of different research groups to clarify the pathophysiology of some eye diseases in order to improve currently available therapeutics. Once key pathophysiological mediators are identified gene therapy will be applied to rectify defective gene function through either gene replacement or induced over expression. Thereby it will be possible to improve the treatment of anterior ocular segment and exocrine glands diseases based on identification of potential targets to reduce disruption of normal tissue and cellular function.

NAPLCP (NAP-CIPEM) – Laboratory of Performance Sciences
Laboratory of Performance Sciences (LPC) is a project to develop teaching, research and extension activities in three Music areas which contemplate their respective interfaces and interdisciplinary relations: composition (composers), interpretation/execution (performer, singers and conductors) and research (musicologist and researcher performer, singers and conductors). The LPC shall organize stable ensembles (chamber, symphonic, vocal and instrumental), events (concerts, festivals, operas, master classes, etc.), pedagogical projects and editions (music scores, books, CDs etc.).

NAP-EM – Multiphase Flow Research Center

The goal of NAP-EM is to bring together researchers and engineers from all engineering disciplines related to multiphase flow and from industry, universities and government labs to facilitate cross-disciplinary exchange and promote the transfer of knowledge and new techniques and approaches across fields. NAP-FarmaDN aims to aggregate USP multidisciplinary scientific groups and also stregthen the collaborative work between foreign univerisities and pharmaceutical industries in an area of significant deprivation, as the neglected diseases. NUSCEP – Research Center on Cellular Signaling on Host-Pathogen Interaction
The objective of NUSCEP is to congregate an interdisciplinary task force to identify components involved in signaling networks that regulate the process of invasion and development of pathogens with three approaches: characterization of signal transduction pathways and validation of their relevance in the infectious cycle of pathogens in order to identify new control strategies; investigation of the mechanisms by which the immune response is modulated by the pathogen; use of bioinformatics to integrate signaling networks of physiological processes.

TIE-US – Research Center on ICU monitoring
The major goal of this project is the fusion of the complementary techniques of EIT and Ultra Sound (US) in a single device to improve the capability of image diagnostic of pulmonary complications and to reduce mortality among ICU patients. The three initial landmarks of the project are: design and development of an integrated EIT/US tomography prototype; research and development of medical applications of the integrated EIT/US tomography; multi-centric statistical investigation addressing the effect of this technology applied to medical emergencies in ICU environment.
