Project Proponent: The proponent is the entity that owns, documents, submits, and benefits from the carbon credits generated by a registered climate mitigation project.
Project Developers: Organizations responsible for the design and implementation of projects that generate verifiable emission reductions or removals, such as reforestation initiatives, renewable energy, energy efficiency, or carbon capture and storage.
Certification Bodies / Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs): Independent organizations that conduct technical audits to validate the project’s methodology and verify whether emission reductions or removals have effectively been achieved.
Registries: Platforms responsible for developing methodologies, registering projects, issuing carbon credits, tracking ownership, enabling their retirement, and ensuring transparency and environmental integrity.
Buyers / Investors: Companies, financial institutions, and other entities that acquire carbon credits for offsetting purposes, compliance with climate commitments, or investment in environmental assets.
The interaction among these actors is essential to ensure credibility, traceability, and integrity in carbon credit transactions.
