In the last decades, numerical modelling and simulation techniques have become vital in many areas of fundamental and applied research. However, there are still many situations in which computational simulations could be of great help to advance in the development of a research project, but they are not properly employed or not employed at all. This usually happens because the researchers involved do not necessarily have the proper background in the numerical methods that could be applied to the problems they face, and instead resort to other techniques like physical experiments. This project gather a team of specialists on the use of various numerical methods and high performance computing, as well as on the application of these tools in challenging problems, with the purpose of identifying opportunities in which those computational analyses could be employed to aggregate value to the research, and giving support in the use of these tools. The objective of this group within the RCGI is to help all the other projects of the Centre in any activities that involve or that could benefit from numerical modelling and simulation. More precisely, the group will focus on the identification of opportunities of numerical modelling, choice of the best numerical methods or software for each application, specification of the necessary infrastructure and computational resources, problem modelling, model validation, simulation and data processing.<\/p>\n
