The S\u00e3o Paulo University Council approved the creation of two new study centres at the University: the Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Innovation (RCGI) and the Centre for Studies in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, which will be directly linked to the Rector’s Office.<\/p>\n

The RCGI was created in 2014 as a Fapesp Engineering Research Centre with an initial Shell sponsorship; later, other companies joined in the development of new projects. Some of them are now TotalEnergies, Petronas, Petrobr\u00e1s, Braskem, Repsol Sinopec Brasil, Toyota Brasil, Marcopolo, and EMTU.<\/p>\n

The new configuration, as a centre linked to the Rectory, will complement S\u00e3o Paulo University’s experiences in supporting scientific research and technological development in relation to sustainable use of natural gas, biogas, hydrogen, management, transport, storage, and use of CO2, focusing on innovation for sustainability and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n

In August this year, RCGI announced the first experimental station for fueling renewable hydrogen from ethanol, which will be installed in Cidade Universit\u00e1ria. The experimental station is expected to be operating in the second half of 2024 to supply buses provided by the S\u00e3o Paulo Metropolitan Transport Company (EMTU) and also a Mirai vehicle provided by Toyota Brasil to test hydrogen performance.<\/p>\n
