In the European system (EU ETS), each unit represents the right to emit 1 tonne of CO\u2082e.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When we talk about carbon credits, the most relevant classification is linked to their climate impact:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Avoidance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> prevent emissions from occurring<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Example: avoided deforestation (REDD+) and renewable energy use<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Reduction:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> decrease emissions compared to a baseline scenario<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Example: energy efficiency, forest management, and methane capture<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Removal:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> remove CO\u2082 from the atmosphere and store it durably<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Example: reforestation and technologies such as Direct Air Capture (DAC)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the carbon market evolves, understanding these differences moves beyond a technical detail \u2014 it becomes strategic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is what ensures greater transparency, credibility, and real impact in decarbonization actions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The RCGI\u2013USP Carbon Registry operates precisely at this point: strengthening traceability and trust in the generation and management of carbon credits.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carbon credits are not all the same \u2014 understanding this difference is essential.
