RESILIENT trial on New England Journal of Medicine

The RESILIENT clinical trial was published this week in the New England Journal of Medicine, the world’s leading medical journal. The study had as main researchers the neurologist Dr. Sheila Martins (UFRGS – Porto Alegre) and the neurointerventionist Dr. Raul Nogueira (Emory University – Atlanta – USA). It was conducted by Brazilian researchers in 12 hospitals of the National Stroke Research Network, coordinated by Prof. Dr. Octávio Marques Pontes Neto. Overall, the RESILIENT study demonstrated that mechanical thrombectomy increases the chance of a patient with ischemic stroke with occlusion of a large brain artery by almost 3 times to be independent and without major sequelae when performed within the first 8 hours of symptom onset of the stroke.
