EAPS’ mission is to do research and raise awareness about the sociocultural construction of appearance and its meanings through the aging process. With this in mind, the purpose is to: 1) legitimize the construction of appearance, 2) empower identities and social engagement and 3) promote the heterogeneity and interdependency of different ways of aging. These efforts intend to increase the debate around myths and stereotypes related to the aging process.
The group works from an interdisciplinary perspective, at the intersection of the Anthropology, Gerontology, Photography and Fashion fields.
The main pedagogical and scientific dissemination tools is art.
