New article published in The Journal of Infectious Diseases! In this work, led by Pablo Fontoura, we suggest that P. vivax—the dominant human malaria parasite in the Americas and other endemic sites outside Africa—reduces its detectability by microscopy and its ability to elicit symptoms at times of reduced vector density and lowest transmission, with clear implications for current malaria elimination efforts.
