The Offshore Technology Innovation Centre (OTIC) is a pioneering research hub dedicated to advancing the offshore industry's transition toward a sustainable and technologically advanced future. OTIC focuses on developing cutting-edge scientific knowledge and innovative technologies that address the complex challenges of the offshore sector, including energy transition, decarbonization, and safe operations. By fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government, OTIC aims to create a multidisciplinary environment targeting the integration of renewable energy sources, the development of efficient carbon capture and storage methods, and the optimization of offshore processes. OTIC also leverages Brazil's unique strengths and expertise in offshore operations, ensuring that the solutions developed are globally relevant while addressing local needs.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR THE ENERGY TRANSITION
OTIC was inaugurated in 2024 with an ambitious R&D portfolio initially sponsored by Shell, bringing together more than 250 researchers across 23 projects. This inaugural portfolio received significant investment from Shell, FAPESP, USP, and IPT, amounting to approximately USD 33 million over five years. This funding supports cutting-edge research and development aimed at transforming the offshore industry through innovation and sustainable practices.
