Brazilian filmmaker and architect, in the 1980s he founded the company Olhar Eletrônico and produced for the television networks Gazeta, Abril, and MTV. At TV Cultura, he directed nearly two hundred episodes of the children’s program Rá-Tim-Bum. He founded O2, a production company for advertising films and later for feature films. He made his film debut with Menino Maluquinho 2: A Aventura (1998), adapted from the work of Ziraldo. In 2001, he directed Domésticas, o Filme, and in 2002 gained recognition with City of God, co-directed by Kátia Lund, based on the novel of the same name by Paulo Lins. The film received several awards and was nominated for an Oscar (2004). In the United States, he directed The Constant Gardener (2005). He adapted for the screen Blindness, a novel by Portuguese writer José Saramago. The film premiered in Brazil in 2008. In 2012, he released the feature film 360.
