About the Program
Excellence in Research and Scientific Training
We train highly qualified researchers and promote impactful knowledge for science and society.
Founded in 2024, the Graduate Program in Functional and Molecular Biology at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICB) of the University of São Paulo (USP) is the result of an innovative and unprecedented merger in Brazilian graduate education between two CAPES excellence programs (score 6): the Human Physiology and Pharmacology programs at ICB.
Despite its recent creation, the program already stands out for its excellence and innovation, establishing itself as a reference in research and in the training of high-level scientists. Born from the bold vision of its faculty advisors, the graduate program has remained at the forefront of biological and molecular studies, constantly adapting to scientific and technological advances.
The program’s mission is to train highly qualified professionals prepared to significantly advance scientific knowledge. We value a genuinely multidisciplinary approach that goes beyond occasional collaborations, integrating diverse fields of knowledge.
Our students are encouraged to develop critical and innovative thinking, always guided by ethics and good scientific practices, in order to face contemporary challenges and contribute to the well-being of society.
We provide solid and comprehensive training to prepare scientists for academic and research careers.
We encourage creativity in projects that seek solutions to complex problems.
We promote global partnerships across different fields of knowledge.
We use science as a tool for sustainable development and human well-being.
