DISSERTATION AND THESIS DEFENSE

PROCEDURE REGARDING THE DEPOSIT OF THE DISSERTATION/THESIS

1. SUGGESTION FROM THE BOARD:

Send the suggestion for the panel to <bmfpg@icb.usp.br> for the Committee’s analysis (CCP/BMF) respecting the deadline for closing the agenda.

The submission must be made at least 1 month before the deadline for deposit in the Janus system.

The panel must include the memories of the qualification (Indicate 2 members of  the memory – 1 member will be titular; the other, alternate).

Comment: After the panel is approved by CCP/BMF, it will be forwarded to CPG of ICB III which will include the suggestion in the agenda only upon online deposit.

The names indicated in the complementary suggestion will be analyzed only by the Program Coordination (which may use them to substitute a full and/or alternate member who has some kind of conflict of interest, for example).

The complementary suggestion will not be sent to CPG. Therefore, the graduate student will not be able to contact any of these members to participate in his or her exam.

In addition to the suggested panel, graduate students must also send the following files:

Complete file (in PDF) of the Dissertation/Thesis (inform whether or not you authorize the disclosure of the file on the CAPES site – Plataforma Sucupira).

If the student/orientator opts for partial availability, they must also send the PDF of the partial version (which must contain only the title page, abstract, introduction, conclusion, and references, with no pagination).

For DO/DD students: you must also submit a draft of your paper.

2. TECHNICAL STANDARDIZATION OF THE DISSERTATION/THESIS

For instructions on technical standardization of the Dissertation/Thesis, see the tutorial available on the library’s website: http://www.icb.usp.br/~sbibicb/

Consult the tutorial and apply guidelines for normalizing academic papers that are described in: ABNT Manual or Vancouver Manual.

On the same page, access the link “Ficha Catalográfica”, fill out the form, and send it to generate the Ficha Catalográfica (the form can be generated as many times as necessary, in case of errors).

3. JANUS ONLINE DEPOSIT

You will be asked for data from the Thesis/Dissertation and to upload the forms attached to the email. Before starting the deposit, please read the file “deposit guidelines”.

Important: after the deposit in the system, I will have 7 calendar days to register the panel members and, as this depends on the CCP meeting being held, the time gap between the deposit and the meeting date may not exceed 6 days.

Ideally, the deposit in the system should be made on the same day as the meeting (respecting, always, the maximum deadline in their respective forms).

I HAVE ALREADY SENT THE BANK AND MADE THE DEPOSIT. NOW?

After CPG’s approval, students will receive an e-mail with the final approved panel. After that, they can make a prior appointment at the defense amphitheater (with Celso/Lucianna – 3091-7439) and then contact the panel members.

Minimum deadline for defense: 21 days from the date of confirmation of the reservation. Therefore, please check beforehand if the date booked – taking into account the day of confirmation – is within the minimum time limit.

Maximum time for defense: 90 days, counting from the approval of the examining board by CPG.

ABOUT THE DEFENSE:

Postgraduates will have a maximum of 30 minutes to make their presentation (the time is the same for all levels: ME, DO, DD).

The amphitheater available for defenses in the Academic Sector – Biomedical Building III has only 28 seats. The building has no room for post-defense celebrations.

According to the decision of the CTA/ICB, in a meeting on 02/03/2016, the external members of the ICB will no longer receive the bonus for the participation in Judging Committees.

We also point out that the program does not have a budget to pay for the participation of external members.
