He opens the series of five lectures and four workshops on the agenda of one of the Center’s projects to be held through the end of the year
This coming Wednesday (3/20), the first presentation on the annual agenda of events of Project 21 of the FAPESP Shell Research Centre for Gas Innovation (RCGI) will be held, which deals with the legal and regulatory framework of the natural gas sector in Brazil. The speaker will be the Administrative and Financial Coordinator of the Companhia Maranhense de Gás (Gasmar), Rodrigo Botão, who will speak on “The Compliance of Natural Gas Concessionaires with the Law Regarding State-owned Companies.” The RCGI is located in the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (Poli/USP), on the Butantan campus, in the city of São Paulo. Law 13.303/2016, which deals with the legal statutes of public companies, mixed-capital companies and their subsidiaries, made significant changes in the administrative and legal scope of state-owned companies, in terms of the level of transparency and control, making it mandatory that risk management, governance, and compliance programs be implemented.
“The lecture will present the results of the implementation of the risk management and compliance programs of the new requirements now in effect at natural gas concessionaires, based on the reports and comparative statistical data characteristic of natural gas companies, such as the volume of gas delivered, number of segments in which they are involved, and the length, in kilometers of the network of gas pipelines,” says Raíssa Musarra, post-doctoral candidate of the USP’s Institute of Energy and the Environment (IEE/USP).
Musarra is one of the members of RCGILex, the tool created for gathering and analyzing legislation in Brazil and the State of São Paulo regarding natural gas. The lecture is organized by scientists of this research group, which is coordinated by Professor Hirdan Katarina de Medeiros Costa.
This year, five presentations and four workshops are planned and on the RCGILex agenda. The will always take place on Wednesdays, at 2:00 p.m., and are open to everyone who is interested in subjects connected to the regulations of the natural gas and energy sectors of Brazil. “The events are a way we communicate with the scientific community and of being closer to all who are interested in subjects related to regulating the country’s energy sector,” Hirdan said.
About the speaker – Rodrigo Botão has a degree in Economics from the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA), and a Master’s degree in Advanced Practical Management from the University of Bath, England, as well as in Energy and the Environment from UFMA. He also holds an MBA in Economic and Financial Expertise and Auditing from the Post-Graduate Institute (IPOG). He worked as a Cost Analyst for RWE Power (Innogy plc) in Birmingham, England, and represented the University of Bath at the Rotman European Trading Competition 2012, which was held at Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali Guido Carli (LUISS), in Rome. He also served as a Special Advisor in the Department of Management and Social Security of the State of Maranhão (SEGEP).
