RCGI is directly involved in a Repsol Sinopec Brasil project that opens the Research & Development line entitled “Carbon Management” at the company. This project even had its embryo in the workshop “Bright Ideas for Research and Innovation”, carried out by RCGI in partnership with the multinational in February 2020.
The initiative is pioneering and counts on partners other than our research center, such as the company Hytron, of the NEA Group (Neuman & Esser Group); the Chemical Engineering Department of the Polytechnic School of University of São Paulo (PQI-EPUSP); the Technology Center of the Chemical and Textile Industry at SENAI (SENAI – CETIQT); and the Fraunhofer Institute. In addition, it receives financial support from the Brazilian National Petroleum Agency (ANP) and the Brazilian Company for Industrial Research and Innovation (EMBRAPII).
According to the text published by Repsol Sinopec Brasil, green hydrocarbons consist of chemical compounds produced through industrial processes that do not emit greenhouse gases and can be combustible, such as diesel, gasoline, paraffin, kerosene, etc.
The contracted specialists will develop the pilot scale deployment of two integrated systems, using national technologies capable of consuming CO2 from different sources, including offshore exploration and production activities for the production of green hydrocarbons. Thus, a cycle of production and consumption of CO2 closed by renewable energy sources is closed.
