Opportunities

The Graduate Program in Biochemistry at the Institute of Chemistry, University of São Paulo (USP), holds semiannual admission exams, typically in November and June. For more information, please visit the Institute website (click here).

Prof. Nícolas Hoch is seeking dedicated and motivated students to join the laboratory for Master’s or PhD studies.

Our group is young and highly dynamic, interested in understanding the functions of a post-translational modification called ADP-ribosylation in various cell signaling pathways, such as DNA repair, cell death, and antiviral immune responses, including against SARS-CoV-2. While maintaining a focus on basic molecular mechanisms, we also study how mutations in certain processes lead to rare genetic diseases characterized primarily by neurodegeneration.

Interested candidates must hold an undergraduate or Master’s degree in the field, preferably with prior undergraduate research experience. Experience in cell and molecular biology techniques such as mammalian cell culture, western blotting, fluorescence microscopy, molecular cloning, and/or gene editing via CRISPR/Cas9 is desirable but not required.

There are various prospects for obtaining funding/scholarships, either through the graduate program (determined by performance in the admission exam) or by applying to funding agencies such as FAPESP.

To apply, please send a CV and cover letter to nicolas@iq.usp.br
