The Laboratory of Neurobiology and Stem Cells aims to understand the role of the prion protein (a cell surface glycoprotein) and its main partners, including the co-chaperone STI1, in the biology of stem cells in mammalian development and tumor tissue. Our recent work also characterized miRNAs released by extracellular vesicles during neural development.

“Understanding the core of stem cell biology is imperative to elucidate glioblastoma evolution, since this tumor may represent a process of aberrant development based on stem cells.”  Dr. MH Lopes
