Selection process for Master’s, Direct Doctorate, and Doctorate with Master’s Degree.
To enter the Graduate Program in Functional and Molecular Biology at ICB-USP, the candidate must hold an undergraduate degree.
The program accepts graduates from fields other than the biomedical area.
The candidate must choose an advisor accredited by the Program and contact them in advance in order to complete a probationary internship.
Applications for the selection exam take place every semester and are announced through a public notice, generally in the months of May and October each year.
Exam dates
• First semester: first Tuesday of June.
• Second semester: last Tuesday of November.
A general knowledge examination in Human Physiology will be held, covering the syllabus that includes the areas of Biophysics, Neurophysiology, and Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Renal, Gastrointestinal, and Endocrine Physiology. Candidates for the Master’s program who obtain a minimum average grade of 5 (five), and candidates for the Direct Doctorate who obtain a minimum average grade of 7 (seven), will advance to the next stage.
Candidates must take the English proficiency examination at the Language Center of FFLCH-USP.
English proficiency will be required during the Curriculum Analysis and Research Project Evaluation stage for all approved candidates participating in the Admission Selection Process from 07/21/2014 onward. For this purpose, the “Sufficient” level certificate issued by the FFLCH/USP Language Center after the quarterly examination is required. A list of certificates considered equivalent for proving English proficiency is also available: List.
Candidates approved in the written Physiology examination must undergo Curriculum Analysis and Research Project Evaluation with the Program Coordinating Committee. During this stage, the candidate will be evaluated regarding their curriculum vitae and the proposed research project.

The selection process for these candidates follows a continuous admission system, according to the rules below:
i – Curriculum Analysis
ii – Master’s Dissertation Analysis;
iii – Dissertation Defense Interview;
iv – Research Project/Research Work Interview.
For registration, according to the submission/delivery method described in the Public Notice, the required documents are:
1. Personal documents;
2. Undergraduate degree verification documents;
3. Master’s degree verification documents;
4. Doctorate with Master’s Registration Form;;
6. Research Project to be developed (for the interview), including: abstract, introduction and justification, objectives, schedule, materials and methods, and bibliography.
The document must contain a maximum of 20 pages and must be sent in PDF format to the email address posfisio@icb.usp.br .

As this is a continuous admission process, the registration periods established in the Public Notice are:
– In the first semester, from the beginning of February until the end of June;
–In the second semester, from the beginning of July until the end of November.
