1st Southeast ANPPAS

In 2018, for the first time, the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Environment and Society (ANPPAS) held a Regional Meeting in the Southeast, which was organized by the Graduate Program in Sustainability at EACH/USP. The event sought to publicize the production of knowledge and promote debate on issues that include the interaction between Environment and Society, emphasizing problems in the region.

With the theme “Sustainability and Interdisciplinary: Advances and challenges for development”, the meeting was attended by renowned researchers in several areas that contribute to facing sustainability challenges: air, water, land, climate change, energy, waste solids, market and sustainability, and environmental law. The thematic axes were addressed both from the point of view of science and technology and governance and public policies.

The meeting took place from September 26 to 28, 2018 at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities of the University of São Paulo (EACH-USP), in the east side of São Paulo. The program featured lectures and roundtables on the following topics:

– Sustainability and Interdisciplinary

– Water in the macro-metropolis and its challenges

– Land use and ecosystem services: research and public policies

– Market and sustainability

– Cities and climate change

– Plastics, cities and the marine environment

– Energy and environment

The event brought together professors and students representing Graduate Programs, networks and research groups in the interdisciplinary area and environmental sciences to discuss a plural scientific and political agenda, resulting in a reflection on the relevance of interdisciplinarity for sustainability and for dialogues between local communities and the regional environment.
