The International Meeting on Plant Breeding is an annual symposium organized by the Genetics and Plant Breeding Group “Prof. Roland Vencovsky”, from the Department of Genetics at ESALQ/USP. The meeting promotes scientific exchange, professional training and discussion of relevant topics in plant breeding.
GVENCK is a research and academic outreach group based at the “Luiz de Queiroz” College of Agriculture, University of São Paulo. The group promotes the training of undergraduate and graduate students through weekly meetings and scientific events.
Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil, hosts the oldest graduate program in Genetics and Plant Breeding in the country, located at the “Luiz de Queiroz” College of Agriculture of the University of São Paulo (ESALQ/USP). Since its foundation, this program has contributed to the training of several generations of plant breeders.
In this context, the IMPB emerged as an annual scientific event dedicated to the advancement of plant breeding. Traditionally held between late September and early October at ESALQ/USP, the meeting brings together renowned national and international speakers and creates opportunities for technical training, scientific discussion and research dissemination.
The event has consolidated itself as a continuous initiative for scientific communication, training and collaboration in plant breeding.
With the continuous growth of the world population, society must adopt strategies to increase food production in a sustainable way. Plant breeding is one of the fundamental strategies for developing cultivars that are more productive, adapted and resilient.
New tools are constantly being developed to support plant breeding programs, aiming to increase selection accuracy, reduce breeding cycle length, enhance genetic gain and contribute to food security. The IMPB provides a space to discuss these advances and their applications.
The IMPB is guided by scientific excellence, collaborative learning and the training of highly qualified professionals prepared to contribute to the future of plant breeding.
To promote a high-level scientific environment for discussing current challenges, methods and opportunities in plant breeding.
To remain a reference meeting that connects academic and professional communities around innovation and scientific progress in plant breeding.
Scientific excellence, collaboration, ethics, inclusion, innovation and commitment to the training of future plant breeding professionals.
To promote scientific exchange and strengthen interaction among researchers, students and professionals in genetics and plant breeding, fostering discussion on relevant topics and encouraging the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
Present recent advances, trends and discoveries related to genetics, genomics, phenotyping, statistical methods and plant breeding.
Create an environment that promotes interaction among researchers, students, professionals, companies and institutions.
Encourage abstract submission and poster presentation, valuing national and international research relevant to plant breeding.
Strengthen technical training, networking and opportunities for innovation among participants and institutions.
The IMPB combines lectures, short courses, poster sessions and networking opportunities to support learning, scientific exchange and professional development.
Invited speakers present advances, challenges and perspectives in genetics and plant breeding, encouraging interaction with participants.
Technical activities support the development of scientific and professional skills among students, researchers and professionals.
Participants present scientific studies, share results and interact with the plant breeding community through poster presentations.
