The Genetics and Plant Breeding Group “Prof. Roland Vencovsky” was created in 2017 at ESALQ/USP in response to the need for discussion and training of specialized professionals in genetics and plant breeding.

The group promotes courses, scientific events, collaborative activities and outreach initiatives that connect students, researchers and professionals in agricultural and biological sciences.

Prof. Roland Vencovsky

Prof. Roland Vencovsky was an agronomist, geneticist and plant breeder whose academic and scientific contributions had a major impact on quantitative genetics, population genetics and plant breeding in Brazil.

He was a professor at ESALQ/USP, author of important scientific works, including Genética Biométrica no Fitomelhoramento, and advisor of dozens of graduate students. His legacy inspired the creation and identity of the Genetics and Plant Breeding Group “Prof. Roland Vencovsky”.

  • Research areas: Quantitative genetics, population genetics and plant breeding
  • Scientific production: More than 150 published articles
  • Academic training: 77 dissertations and theses advised
  • Recognition: Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences

GVENCK is linked to the “Luiz de Queiroz” College of Agriculture, University of São Paulo, an institution with a strong tradition in agricultural sciences, education, research and extension.
