Advancing Plant Breeding Through Science, Training, and Collaboration

The International Meeting on Plant Breeding is an annual symposium organized by the Genetics and Plant Breeding Group “Prof. Roland Vencovsky”, from the Department of Genetics at ESALQ/USP. The meeting promotes scientific exchange, professional training and discussion of relevant topics in plant breeding.

About GVENCK

GVENCK is a research and academic outreach group based at the “Luiz de Queiroz” College of Agriculture, University of São Paulo. The group promotes the training of undergraduate and graduate students through weekly meetings and scientific events.

The Meeting

From the Beginning

Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil, hosts the oldest graduate program in Genetics and Plant Breeding in the country, located at the “Luiz de Queiroz” College of Agriculture of the University of São Paulo (ESALQ/USP). Since its foundation, this program has contributed to the training of several generations of plant breeders.

In this context, the IMPB emerged as an annual scientific event dedicated to the advancement of plant breeding. Traditionally held between late September and early October at ESALQ/USP, the meeting brings together renowned national and international speakers and creates opportunities for technical training, scientific discussion and research dissemination.

Scientific Relevance

Plant breeding and sustainable agriculture

With the continuous growth of the world population, society must adopt strategies to increase food production in a sustainable way. Plant breeding is one of the fundamental strategies for developing cultivars that are more productive, adapted and resilient.

Innovation for genetic gain

New tools are constantly being developed to support plant breeding programs, aiming to increase selection accuracy, reduce breeding cycle length, enhance genetic gain and contribute to food security. The IMPB provides a space to discuss these advances and their applications.

Mission, Vision and Values

The IMPB is guided by scientific excellence, collaborative learning and the training of highly qualified professionals prepared to contribute to the future of plant breeding.

Mission

To promote a high-level scientific environment for discussing current challenges, methods and opportunities in plant breeding.

Vision
