BASICS

17/12/2020

The BASICS trial is an academic phase III clinical trial, organized and conducted by independent researchers in a multicenter, controlled and randomized international collaboration, open with a blind assessment of outcomes, with the aim of providing analysis of whether the endovascular (ET) treatment added to the clinical treatment (including intravenous thrombolysis) in patients with basilar artery occlusion (OAB) is more effective and safer than the best optimized clinical treatment in patients eligible for recanalization therapies in the acute phase of ischemic stroke secondary to BAO, evaluated 90 days after ictus. This trial is in the recruitment phase and is expected to last until the end of 2018. Overall, the BASICS study is coordinated by Prof. Wouter Schoneville of Utrecht University. Until December 2019, 300 patients were included in 23 centers.
