Thesis of the Graduate Program in Sustainability receives an honorable mention from the ANPPAS Dissertation and Thesis Award – 2021

The thesis “Sustainable Production and Consumption Policy: a study from the perspective of strategic fields of action”, by Erico Luciano Pagotto, developed in the Post-Graduate Program in Sustainability with the guidance of Profa. Dr. Sylmara Gonçalves Dias, received an honorable mention from the ANPPAS Dissertation and Thesis Award – 2021 – National Association of Post-Graduate Studies and Research in Environment and Society.

This research investigates the field of Sustainable Production and Consumption (SCP) in Brazil from the discourses of the main state and non-state actors. PCS presents itself as a complex and interdisciplinary research object, demanding contributions from fields of knowledge such as Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Administration and Environmental Sciences. Thus, the interdisciplinary approach, a hallmark of the Postgraduate Program in Sustainability, represents a holistic perspective on the object, which is still little studied in the country. The thesis characterizes the PCS as a field of strategic action, marked by disputes between social actors with distinct interests. As one of the products, unprecedented in the area, the work provides a map, in which it positions the various actors: government, private sector and civil society in relation to a stronger sustainability, which values society and the environment, or a weaker sustainability, which prioritizes the growth of the economy.

The social relevance of the thesis is evidenced by revealing the need for a debate about consumption and sustainability, discussing the roles of the market and society in changing paradigms, in addition to the public policies that have been or are being implemented by the initiative of state actors.
