About me

I am a Professor of Economics at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities, and also an associate advisor at the Graduate Program in Complex Systems Modelling and at the Graduate Program in Japanese Studies  of the University of São Paulo (USP). I have been visiting scholar at Harvard University, George Washington University; visiting research fellow at the University of Tokyo, at Kobe University, and at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce; a visiting research fellow at the Institute of Developing Economies-Jetro, Japan; and a research assistant at Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas at the University of São Paulo.

My research includes issues on trade policy, regional economic integration, international cooperation, and economic relations between Brazil and Japan, and East Asia.

I have been publishing several academic papers, with a primary interest in East Asia and Japan’s economic studies. My book, “As origens do investimento japonês na Ásia: um estudo do período pré-Segunda Guerra Mundial” was published in Portuguese in 2009. And I coordinated the handbook “Integração Econômica Regional”, published in 2013. In 2022 I published the book  “Integração Econômica e Política Comercial do Japão”.

Before arriving as faculty at the University of São Paulo, I was a professor of Economics at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Sao Paulo (PUC-SP), Catholic University of Sao Paulo, and at Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing (ESPM). In 2005, I worked as Deputy Director with the publishing house of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Sao Paulo (PUC-SP), Catholic University of Sao Paulo. Between 2000 and 2003, I served at the Secretariat of Finance of the State of Sao Paulo, both as a member of the Group for Supervision and Management of the Finance Department Contracts and as Director of the Centre of Strategic Studies of the Secretariat of Finances Training Center.

I hold a Habilitation title from the Univesity of São Paulo, a Doctor degree in Economics from Fundação Getúlio Vargas de São Paulo (FGV-SP); Master degree in Public Administration, also from Fundação Getúlio Vargas; I was a research student at the Graduate School of Economics, Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo, Japan, by the Japanese Government Scholarship; I hold a B.A. in Economics from the Universidade de Sao Paulo (USP) and another B. A. in Administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV-SP).

I also hold the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Level N1
