General Information

Minimum duration: 12 months.

Maximum duration: 33 months.

Candidates for a Master’s degree must complete at least 96 credits: at least 28 course credits and 68 thesis credits.

How to Apply

Those interested in applying for the Master’s program in Psychology shall first contact a potential advisor, that is, a professor working in the field of research of interest who will advise on how to proceed with your research project during the program. After gaining your advisor’s consent, you shall apply for the selection process that takes place every six months according to the established in specific document under “Admission”, “Master’s Program”, and “Notice”.

Scholarships

In addition to CAPES scholarships distributed by the Vice-President of Graduate Studies of USP, the Graduate Program in Psychology provides scholarships to Master’s students (from CAPES and CNPq) who meet social demands. The monthly amount of a Master’s scholarship is R$ 1,500.00 (One Thousand and Five Hundred Reais) and may be provided up to 24 months.

In addition to these scholarships, Master’s and Doctoral scholarships can be specifically requested to FAPESP or other research funding agencies through the student’s or advisor’s own initiative.

After being approved in the selection process and having regularly enrolled in the program, scholarship candidates must declare their interest by filling out a specific form and delivering it to the Program’s Administrative Office immediately after admission, after which incoming students are included in the list of candidates to CAPES and CNPq scholarships. Students are listed according to their rank in the selection process, i.e. the student ranked first in the Master’s selection process is also the first in the list of candidates to scholarships and so on. The list of scholarship candidates is valid for one semester (period between enrollments).

General Information

Minimum duration: 24 months.

Maximum duration: 45 months.

Candidates for a doctoral degree must complete at least 160 credits: 16 course credits and 144 dissertation credits.

How to Apply

Those interested in applying to the doctoral program in Psychology shall first contact a potential advisor, a professor working in the field of research of interest who will advise on how to proceed with your research project during the program. After gaining your future advisor’s consent, you shall apply for the selection process. You may apply year round, according to the procedure established under “Admission”, “Doctoral Program”, and “Notice”. The selection schedule is available on this page under “Admission”, “Doctoral Program”, and “Selection Exam”.

Scholarships

In addition to CAPES scholarships distributed by the Vice-President of Graduate Studies of USP, the Graduate Program in Psychology provides scholarships to Doctoral students (from CAPES and CNPq) who meet social demands. The monthly amount of a Doctoral scholarship is R$ 2,200.00 (Two Thousand and Two Hundred Reais) and may be provided for up to 48 months.

After being approved in the selection process and having regularly enrolled in the program, the student must declare an interest in receiving a scholarship by filling out a specific form and delivering it to the Program’s Administrative Office (template available at http://sites.usp.br/psicologiarp/formularios-2/).

Students interested in obtaining a scholarship are ranked according to the following:

  1. Final grade (from 0 to 10) obtained in the doctoral selection process (or Master’s selection process, if the candidate was in a Master’s program and was invited to the Doctoral Program), weight 2;
  2. Seniority score (from 1 to 10) given by: 10 divided by the maximum duration of the Doctoral Program (45 months), which equals 0.22, multiplied by the total number of months the candidate has been in the program. For calculation purposes, newly admitted students are considered as having completed one month since their enrollment.
  3. The program’s scholarship committee ranks students according to the formula:[(final grade obtained in the graduate program’s selective process X 2) + (seniority score X 1)] / 3.

In case of a tie between two or more students, the highest grade obtained in the research project presented in the selection process is the first criterion for a tie-breaker. The second criterion is the seniority score.

The rating list of students applying for a scholarship is updated five weekdays after the results of the Doctoral selection process are disclosed (only those who manifested interest are considered), and becomes valid after it’s publication on the bulletin board of the Psychology Graduate Program’s Administrative Office up to the disclosure of a new rating list concerning the following selection process.

In addition to these scholarships, Master’s and Doctoral scholarships can be specifically requested to FAPESP or other research funding agencies through the student’s or advisor’s own initiative.
