At the QSLab - USP we develop fundamental and applied research on the field of quantum optics. We have strong interest in exploring the complex structure of light in space, time and polarization to the aid of quantum technologies such as quantum communications and metrology.

Lukas Montenegro

PhD Student
Lukas’ work focuses on spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC), the rice&beans of entanglement based quantum communications. Lukas also investigates the manipulation of quantum correlations using structured light in nonlinear optics.

Higor Arruda

PhD Student
Higor’s work focuses on quantum frequency conversion (QFC), an enabling technology for quantum communications. QFC allows changing the color of a photon, enabling its detection with minimal resource overheads.

Bruno Vermes

MsC student
Bruno’s work focuses on the generation, distribution and measurement of time-bin entanglement. He currently works on building resource efficient sources of time-bin entangled photons and franson interferometers. In summary, he splices fibers.

Caio Ribeiro

BSc student
Caio is the main person working on free-space quantum communications in the QSLab. He currently works on developing tracking algorithms for aligning QComms telescopes.

Nathalia Seino

BSc student
Nathalia works with Higor on the quantum frequency conversion branch of our lab. She also works on the manipulation of structured light with spatial light modulators, preparing for applications in high-dimensional quantum communications.

Igor Alcantara

BSc student
Igor is currently working on the 3D printing of versatile optical elements in tansparent resin, such as Fresnel Rhombs and lenses. The goal is to find a recipe to make nontrivial DYI to manipulate the structure of light in space, spectrum and polarization.

Henrique is corrently inestigating second-harmonic generation with structured light fields, studying the contribution from the spatial structure to the nonlinear phase matching problem.
