StruQT – Structured Light for Quantum Technologies

The StruQT project (FAPESP Young Researcher project 2024/08450-0) was the starting point of the QSLab. The project proposes the creation of a lab to develop hardware for modern quantum technologies, with emphasis on the encoding, exchange and readout of quantum information using complex structures of light. 

The main deliverable of the QSLab in this project is the Quantum Network of São Paulo (QneSP), a quantum network within the Backbone USPnet infrastructure of dark optical fibers. We have the goal of distributing entangled photons in the QneSP, enabling quantum secure communications between all campuses of the University of São Paulo.

Rio-São Paulo alliance for quantum communications

This project is the result of an ambitious collaboration between researchers of six institutions, namely Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas (CBPF), Instituto Militar de Engenharia (IME), Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Instituto Mackenzie de Pesquisas em Grafeno e Nanotecnologias (MackGraphe), and Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC). This project is funded by a joint venture of FAPESP and FAPERJ, in the framerowk on FAPESPs QuTIa prigram. Our goal is to find synergies between the QneSP and the Rio Quantum Network, and work towards establishing an operational interstate quantum network in Brazil.

The Alliance project has many branches, including quantum frequency conversion, twin-field quantum key distribution, entanglement distribution, and more. The QSLab role in it is to work on the development of resource-efficient entanglement servers and waveguide-based quantum frequency converters.
