April 10th Silvia Mandai

Next Tuesday, April 10th, Silvia Mandai, master candidate advised by Prof. Marcelo Pereira de Souza, will present the seminar “Integrating of biodiversity in environmental impact statements in the Sao Paulo State. The seminar takes place in room T1, building M1 at 12:30.

Abstract:

Brazil is considered a megadiverse country, but its biodiversity has been threatened by certain projects. This way, one of the most used instruments has been the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) one of its documentary tools. In this context, the inclusion of biodiversity in the EIA has been investigated in many countries. However, deficiencies, inconsistencies, and insufficient
data have been reported. Thus, this work seeks to analyze how biodiversity has been integrated into EISs of the state of São Paulo from 2005 to 2016. Initially, a preliminar list was elaborated, based on scientific papers, books, theses/dissertations, manuals and the Convention on Biological Diversity. Then, the list was analyzed by 43 EIA specialists/professionals from 5 sectors, through a questionnaire at Google Forms during 37 days. Based on the answers, the list was reelaborated.
